In Thailand, the world’s smelliest fruit may be shedding its notorious title, to much controversy. The odorless Chantaburi No. 1, bred by Thai scientists, is hoped to broaden the acceptability of the durian, unlocking the door to American and European customers
“Making a non-smelly durian is like a thornless rose,” Bob Halliday, a Bangkok-based food writer, said. “It’s really cutting out the soul.”
