I long ... for longan!

What are these strange looking things? Stones? Eggs? No and no. These are luscious longan (pronounced long-guhn), a fruit common thoughout Southeast Asia (including the Philippines!). I got a taste again when we saw these at Canadian Superstore ($3.99/bag).

Curious to find out what this looks like? Check out photos after the jump!

The skin is leathery but pinch your nail in and you can easily peel it open.

The flesh is white and juicy, sweet and a mild mix of ripe cantaloupe and lychee.
Be careful, there's a tough shiny seed in the middle!

A little taste of home, even though we're halfway around the world! Ah the wonders of commerce.
