We're winos!

valhondo tinto

We’ve been drinking wine for a few years now, and funnily we haven’t been keeping a wine diary.

I always let Yeng open the bottle. But today, in honor of starting writing about wine on this blog, he made me open the bottle. I have had bad experiences with wine bottle opening, with the cork always ending up in bits and floating in the bottle, or just looking like a fool because struggling to get the cork out isn't exactly graceful business.

With a little (no, a lot of urging), I stripped the wine bottle of its green covering with a knife. Then got the corkscrew, screwed in to the hilt and waited for Yeng to pull the danged thing out. He started laughing when he saw that the tip of the corkscrew had driven down to the end of the cork (apparently a no-no). He wouldn’t have a hand in it and urged me to keep trying. The cork kept bending as I tried, and I feared that it would end in disaster. Apparently it showed in my face. But after little aplomb, the cork came out. And now we are airing the bottle of Valhondo Tinto to accompany our dinner of puttanesca.

Valhondo Tinto
Category: Vino de mesa
Country of origin: Spain
BottleR: Bodegas Arisabel
Alcohol strength: 13% alc./vol.
Bottle vol.: 750 ml

Price: P219
From: Santi’s Deli
From the real historic heart of Spain – the widest surface of vineyards in the world - comes this easy drinking, exuberant red wine. Serve at room temperature with all types of meat and cheese.

What we thought:
Color: deep red
Smell: hmmm, fruity, kind of like banana; distinct alcohol at end
Sweetness: medium-dry (Yeng says medium-sweet)
Taste: spicy, which spreads a few seconds in the mouth; a slight bite on the tongue

This is by no means scientific or professional, just our impressions! we'd definitely buy this again, its not too expensive and it was great with the puttanesca!
