Another (durian) ice cream break!

arce durian ice cream

Well, it is no wonder that I am putting on weight. My romance with Arce Dairy's Ice Cream continues. This time around, I'm totally smitten with durian ice cream.

Durian is one of those strange foodstuffs that you either detest with a passion, or love with a passion. It can smell like utter heaven ... or stink to the deepest mosh pit ... depending on your olfactories. It can taste like manna ... or it can make you swear off eating altogether ... depending on your tastebuds. So those who hate it already are definitely going to go "What were they thinking putting it in ice cream?" I obviously swing to the other extreme and will go to great lengths to be able to eat anything with durian. Ice cream, candy, coffee, pie ... you name, I've probably tried it.

In the Philippines, it grows in abundance in Davao. Any chance down there and I make it a point to eat what I can while there. I've risked the ire of hotel staff by "smuggling" in durian fruit in my hotel room (contrary to what you think, I didn't break any rules as by removing the flesh from the thorny shell and putting them in plastic containers and sealing these really, really well doesn't allow the odor to escape); I've gone overweight because I had to bring home some of the fruit intact; and I was almost late because I did a last minute detour for some freshly baked durian pie. Ah, the lengths I've gone to for this pretty ugly looking fruit.

Read more raves from more raving lunatics (like me) about the durian fruit.

Before I forget, this post was about durian ice cream. Like all of Arce's dairy products, they use fresh carabao's milk and there is no artificial coloring or flavoring. It's very creamy, mildly sweet, with a few bits of durian fruit. Really, to die for. C'mon, live a little ... you may just become a convert ...
